Stump Grinding

Stump Grinding & Removal in Dickson, TN

An old stump is more than an eyesore — it's a tripping hazard, mower killer, termite invitation, and a permanent obstacle to landscaping. We grind stumps 6 to 12 inches below grade, backfill with the grindings (or haul them off), and leave the site ready for new grass, gravel, or plantings.

What our stump grinding service covers

Standard Stump Grinding

Most residential stumps ground below grade in a single visit, backfilled with chips.

Large-Diameter Stumps

Big oaks and maples with wide root flares — no problem. We size the machine to the stump.

Multi-Stump Discounts

Bundled pricing when you have multiple stumps ground in the same trip.

Surface Root Removal

Flush grinding of surface roots that damage mowers or lift patios/walkways.

Chip Haul-Off

Prefer clean dirt instead of chips? We can haul the grindings and leave you a filled hole.

Post-Grind Cleanup

Site raked, chips leveled, ready for topsoil, sod, or landscaping.

Frequently asked about stump grinding

How deep do you grind?+

Standard grinding is 6"–8" below grade. For future planting, patios, or foundations we can go 10"–12" or deeper.

Do you fill the hole?+

By default we backfill with the grindings. If you'd rather have topsoil, we can haul the chips off — just let us know when we schedule.

Will grass grow back over it?+

Yes, once you top-dress with 2"–4" of topsoil. Grindings alone are too woody for good turf establishment.
